Agggh! What is the world coming to?

Classics scholars have accused councils of ‘ethnic cleansing’ after they banned staff from using Latin words.

The
local authorities claim the terms are elitist and discriminatory, and
have ordered employees to use often-wordier alternatives in documents
or when speaking to the public.

Bournemouth Council, which has
the Latin motto Pulchritudo et Salubritas - beauty and health - has
listed 19 terms it no longer considers acceptable for use.

Dust

Dust, dust, dust…….  cobweb……dust……………….  more dust…..

Finally submitted and rejected

Surely you knew this would follow. LOL

I was told the piece was “deftly handled” and should place quickly, just wasn’t the right type of material.

What stunk was that I spent part of Saturday night reading the zine. I did find some great authors I will definitely follow though, so it wasn’t a complete loss.

The rejection is over…..YAY!

Finally submitted and published

Gloom Cupboard #60

There’s a spelling error and a couple of punctuation errors. It was one of those - if you don’t do this you never will - kind of submissions.

But I did it. I put myself out there in a group where no one knows me and someone liked it.

Thanks to all of you for encouraging me.

Stuff to read if you'd like

Literal Minded really looks neat! Great job everybody. Here’s some stuff I’ve written

Website email service

iconoclast's picture

As some of you know, the site email services (reminders, invitations, registrations) are dependent upon the email server installed on the server.  What this means is that since the move, no emails have moved from this site or any of the others.

Now the situation has changed.  At the moment the email server was brought to life, the email capability of various sites was instantly switched on.  With a modicum of foresight, while installing the new email server and configuring it, I fortuitously deleted the thousands of emails the websites had tried since the move to inject into a non-existent mail queue.  So we are safe from avalanche.  However, the new email server, while running, currently has no spam or virus checking and only rudimentary connection security.  Emails generated by the sites should be okay, but the email server is not ready for regular use.  I haven’t even recreated all the email addresses (which a certain person forgot to back up).  I will post an update when we have full secure email back.

Referrers

Petroglyph's picture

I’ve just had a quick look at the referrer sites — those web pages visitors to LM were viewing right before they came here. The results are somewhat amusing, though fortunately I can’t spot anything that would creep me out.

Here is a list of the search engine results that sported a link to LM:

Google.nz:

Google.ca:

FeedBurner issue?

Petroglyph's picture

I was trying to update the history bit in my account, but for some reason my changes weren’t being saved and I kept getting this error message:

Invalid FeedBurner feed URI (alphanumeric only, no spaces or special characters).

I did include a couple of links, so I double-checked them (no non-alphanumeric characters there), but I kept on getting the same error message, even after I had deleted all hyperlinks. Is there an issue with the profile page not feeding properly into feedburner?

Freeminded Closed

iconoclast's picture

All blog content has been absorbed into LiteralMinded, and Freeminded has now closed.  I still hope we will be reopening it as a new incarnation, but the first priority was to find a place for the content and close the current site.
